The Governors of St Mark’s are currently seeking to appoint:

A full time experienced and enthusiastic Grade 5 Teaching Assistant to work predominantly in Year 5. The successful candidate will work as part of a team of Teaching Assistants to provide learning support for all children across the year group. The role also includes targeted support for a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The successful candidate will work closely with fellow TAs who also share this responsibility, the class teacher and SENCO to deliver structured, consistent support that promotes engagement, emotional regulation and access to learning. Responsibilities will include supporting the child to follow routines, breaking learning into manageable steps, using visual prompts and positive behaviour strategies, and responding sensitively to sensory needs. The role requires someone who is patient, flexible and proactive, who can enable all children to flourish.

The position will be fixed term until 21.07.27 (end of summer term), with a view to extending if funding allows.

The successful candidates will:

  • Provide and assess particular support for pupils, including those with special educational needs or disabilities, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
  • Have experience in working with children with special educational needs
  • Through planned interventions, make every effort to raise the attainment and progress of pupils you are working with.
  • Monitor and evaluate pupils’ responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording of achievement, keeping up to date records as agreed with the SENDCo and Senior Leaders.
  • Playground supervision and other supervision of pupils e.g. while travelling around the school grounds
  • Be aware of the National Teaching Assistant Standards and use these to support your work.
  • Regularly evaluate interventions being delivered, using baseline assessments where appropriate.
  • Complete paperwork regarding interventions and individual children as requested.
  • Plan and prepare small group activities.
