Four of our Year 6 pupils were invited to attend a conference with Alex Chalk to discuss climate change, COP26 and environmental issues affecting our local community.
Each pupil had the opportunity to ask a question, raising important topics such as increasing the use of clean energy for electric car charging, improving the availability of charging points, securing funding to make schools more energy-efficient and reduce CO₂ emissions, making public transport more affordable, and introducing anti-idling zones in the local area.
Our pupils spoke with confidence and clarity, demonstrating a real interest in the environment and the future of our planet. Alex Chalk’s responses helped them to develop their understanding of funding arrangements and the responsibilities of the local council.
We are very proud of our pupils for sharing their ideas, asking thoughtful questions and showing how young people can make their voices heard on important environmental issues.
