To celebrate this year’s Olympics in Paris we have thoroughly enjoyed two days of French and Olympic sports events this week.
It has been a wonderful opportunity for us all to practise our French language through a variety of activities, learning about the cuisine and culture of France.
The Year 3 & 4 children visited “Café St Marc” and got the opportunity to use our French language to order some patisseries (provided generously by Caterlink, our school meals provider), small French biscuits, fruit and drinks.
Year 5 and 6 made and baked French baguettes with staff from Caterlink, learning lots of facts about traditional baking methods and techniques. They also took part in nutrition activities, building the children’s knowledge of French foods as well as how to maintain a healthy, balanced diet .. We never know when we might be called to train for the Olympics!
All of the children engaged in learning activities in the classroom, where they discovered facts about they key landmarks in and around the main Olympics locations.
Prostars visited us to treat each class to a 45 minute mini Olympic sports session where the children tried out a variety of Olympic sports including fencing and archery. This culminated in a closing ceremony in which the children performed a special dance routine that they were taught during the sports session!
To add to the atmosphere we wore red, white and blue and very much got into the spirit of all things French!
A huge thank you to Ben and Meg from Caterlink for providing food for the café, bread dough and their valuable time to make this event possible, as well has getting up at the crack of dawn to bake the pastries for us! Thanks to Mrs Hunt and Mrs Wallace who helped run the café and also to Mrs Hicks and Mrs Hunt for organising this whole event. We really have had a fantastic couple of days. We can’t wait for the Olympics to start now! How exciting!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
