We all had a fantastic trip to France over a long weekend. The children were fantastic and had a great laugh! We were based in a hotel just outside Boulogne next to beach. The ferry crossing was windy but a calm sea resulted in a smooth crossing. Once we arrived, unpacked and ate our evening meal, we took a walk to the beach and played a range of games in the dark.
The following day, we visited a sweet factory, purchased some French produce from the local market and completed the town trail around the old city. In the afternoon children participated in den building and team sports. That evening, we went out to the local café for a drink and crepe.
On Sunday, we went to visit the local military cemetery at Etaples where over 10,000 people are buried from the two World Wars. It was moving experience which was a great chance for the children to reflect on historical events.
On our return journey, we stopped at the Blockhaus d'Eperlecques where preparations were made to launch V2 rockets towards the end of WW2. The Channel Tunnel was also a great experience. I'm not sure there are many children who can claim they completed their mile walk under the English Channel!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
